The first ever Gearapalooza in Canada on Wednesday, May 6th, was welcomed by a typical Edmonton experience in spring – a snowstorm. This didn’t stop the sold out crowd of new and expecting parents from coming out to West Coast Kids to learn about new baby gear and to hear from the baby gear expert himself, Jamie Grayson. I was lucky enough to be amongst them.
For the first hour or so, we mingled with retailers over sandwiches and desserts (the cannoli was amazing!), watching demonstrations of their latest and greatest products.
I was particularly drawn to the Quinny Yezz stroller. I have never seen a stroller fold so easily and so compact. I think it would be great for public transport. Travelling with my son on the bus with a typical stroller has always been somewhat of a struggle.
The My Carry Potty was another interesting product. It’s a stylish potty that kids can take with them wherever they go. I will definitely keep this in mind as my little guy nears potty training age.
Also, the Dekor diaper pail works for both disposable and cloth diapers, something I have never seen before with typical diaper disposal systems. You can also lock the top so toddlers can’t open and throw items in.
Next up was a presentation by Jamie Grayson, the Baby Guy. With many adoring fans in the crowd, his humourous, yet informative presentation on baby item essentials was well received. His explanation on car seat installations was the best I’ve heard. His presentation was very interactive, with lots of audience questions answered.
After the presentation, several lucky attendees went home with great prizes, totaling thousands of dollars. Everyone went home with a swag bag with loads of products worth more than the cost of admission.
All in all, it was a worthwhile event for new and expecting parents, and a great Canadian introduction to Gearapalooza.
Thank you to Monica for this guest post and for attending Edmonton’s first ever Gearapalooza!
