Top 5 Family Travel Gear

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulder. Ever since my twins turned 5 years old I feel like things are just getting easier.

We’re into booster seats not car seats, they ride their own bikes and aren’t on the back of mine, and I haven’t used a stroller in months!

Looking back at how we ever managed to travel with two babies, then toddlers- I don’t know how we could have managed without the following few pieces of crucial gear:

1. gogoKidz Travelmates gogo

2. Snack & Play Travel Trays

3. Baby Bjorn carriers

4. Prince Lionheart Stroller connectors

5. Fabric Travel High Chair harness

Budget Friendly Family Travel- on Global

One Tiny Suitcase has been asked to do another segment on Family Travel at the Global News studios in Calgary. As some of you know, I’m not a big fan of the ‘staycation’. On Monday I’ll give some tips for how to have a REAL vacation this summer without breaking the bank.

Watch for our segment on how to travel on a budget this summer, airing Monday June 15, 2009.

Have a look at a previous segment we did on Family Travel last year:

Go go baby!

There are some really cool products on the market for travelling with kids and I see a lot of them.

On our last flight to Maui we chose to use the gogo Kidz Travelmates so we could wheel the twins right up to the gate in their favorite (and safest) car seats, the BRITAX Roundabouts. There is about a 30 minute walk in the Vancouver airport from the domestic arrivals to the International departures and the gogo Kidz allowed us to get there super fast. The kids just leaned back and enjoyed the ride! img00008gogocalgary1

For the holiday season we will be renting out a selection of gogo Kidz Travelmates for your holiday travels ($35/trip).

You might also be interested in the CARES harness (on sale right now for $55.95 at (www.amazon.com ). As with everything, make sure you check out the customer reviews before deciding which travel accessory is right for you. This one has been getting mixed reviews and can only be used on certain airlines.

The Sit n Stroll car seat/strollercombination from by Lily Gold is also another option to get you to the gate and on your way. A much bigger investment at around $250, you can pick one of these up online (www.strollerdepot.com).

Rentals for baby….worldwide!

The Baby Equipment Rentals business is in a very cool niche market with great people operating businesses all over the world. I am fortunate to have met some of them and keep in touch with operators in the UK, South Africa, USA & Canada.

Most of us started these businesses because we saw an opportunity to service traveling families (just like our own). Cribs, Strollers and Car Seats has evolved into rentals of items like the GoGo Kidz Travelmate (www.weetravel.ca) in Toronto and Vancouver, Bumbo seats (www.babylite.co.za) in South Africa, Bugaboo strollers in LA (www.thetravelingbabyco.com), Baby Baths in London (www.purplestork.co.uk) and MEDELA breastpumps in Calgary (www.onetinysuitcase.ca).

A new website just launched this week that lists Baby Equipment Rental companies all over the world. Check out www.baby-equipment-rental.com

Calgary’s Baby Show

This past weekend we were one of the exhibitors at Calgary’s largest Baby Show, the Family-a-Fair. We were showcasing some of our unique products and services to Calgary families. Visit our website www.onetinysuitcase.ca  to see the GoGo Kidz Travelmate- it was a big hit!

It was great to meet all the enthusiastic families and to hear about their travels. One of the questions that we heard a lot over the 2 day event was about how to find Baby Equipment Rentals in destinations around the world. We made sure to direct parents to a website called The New Parents Guide (www.thenewparentsguide.com). This is the best site we have found for a comprehensive listing of Baby Equipment Rental companies around the world. For your next trip, check out their Family Travel page!
